AYSO

Welcome New AYSO Players!

Welcome new AYSO players and parents! We are very glad you have taken an interest in this wonderful organization! We have created this page to help you understand what to expect, and to answer some of the frequently asked questions that new players will have.

AYSO New Player FAQs

What do I need to bring to Registration?

All non-returning players should bring their birth certificates, and all players will need to bring a check or money order. AYSO is developed around the concept that everyone plays, so there are no tryouts, and while the kids will likely enjoy kicking around the soccer ball during the registration process, it is not neccesary to bring any equipment. It is also HIGHLY recommended that you pre-register by clicking the link here, and bring 3 copies of each players registration forms with you.

How long does registration take?

Tehachapi AYSO has a very efficient registration system, but we are a very popular organization, so there may be a line when you arrive. The majority of the time spent at the fields is spent by you filling out paperwork, which can be avoided by pre-registering. We have had registration take less than 5 minutes for those prepared indivuals!

How much does it cost to play Soccer?

You will find Soccer is one of the most affordable sports anywhere. The only equipement you absolutely need to buy in order to play is shinguards. For the incredibly low price of only $80 per player, AYSO will supply your players with a complete uniform, a great positive fun experience, and several months of soccer playing instruction and fun!

Do you accept Credit Cards?

Unfortunately, AYSO cannot accept credit cards for registration fees. We do, however, offer payment plans and scholorships programs for those who qualify.

What is required to play AYSO soccer?

As we mentioned earlier, all you need to play AYSO soccer is a pair of shinguards. Your coach will likely encourage you to buy an age appropriate soccer ball, and the players usually will want a pair of cleats, but those are optional. If cleats are worn, they must not have a toe-cleat on them (the little cleat in the front that sticks out) so those baseball and football cleats will not work.

What size ball do I need?

All of the AYSO divisions are broken up into logical names, like U-6 for under 6 players, U8 for under 8 (which includes the 6-8 year olds), U10 (8-9 year olds) etc. The type of ball you need depends on the division (the age) of your players. Use the following chart to find the right size for you!

Divisions Ball Size
U6, U8 Size 3
U10, U12 Size 4
U14, U16, U19 Size 5

What should I bring to practices?

Players should arrive at least 10 minutes early to practice with proper shinguards, a soccer ball, and closed-toe (tennis) shoes. In addition, it is extremely important in Tehachapi that players bring plenty of water, and sunscreen.

When are practices and games held?

All games are held on Saturdays between 9am and 5pm at Benz Visco soccer fields. For the U6 division, practices are held an hour before each game and only last 30 minutes. For the older divisions, practice times are at the sole discretion of the coach, but will be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 4pm and 7pm. Usually practices last an hour and occur only once or twice a week.

Where are practices and games held?

All practices and games will be held at Benz Visco soccer fields.
